Every briefing is based on reporting or official announcements from at least one of the following:
- VA.gov News — official press releases from the Department of Veterans Affairs
- DoD News — Department of Defense announcements, including pay and policy changes
- Federal Register — official rules and proposed rules from VA, DoD, and OPM
- Congress.gov / GovTrack — legislation introduced or passed by the House and Senate Veterans' Affairs committees
- DFAS — Defense Finance and Accounting Service military pay tables
- DoD BAH Rates — Basic Allowance for Housing rate tables by location and pay grade
- Google News — curated headlines from credentialed outlets (Military Times, Stars and Stripes, Defense.gov, Military.com, Task & Purpose, and others)
How We Select Stories
Our automated pipeline scores each article for relevance to veterans and military families. We use the following criteria:
- Direct impact on VA disability ratings or COLA adjustments
- Changes to military retirement or Blended Retirement System rules
- PACT Act / burn-pit policy updates
- Government shutdown risk or federal pay freezes affecting veterans
- New legislation passing committee or the full House/Senate
We set a minimum relevance threshold of 4/10. Stories scoring below that are discarded.
